I have just removed a log burner from my fireplace and want to replace this with a traditional open fireplace. I have bought a cart iron insert and a wooden surround. The space is wide and I believe that it will need bricked up either side of the insert, vermiculite used to fill in the spaces and may need the lintel changed. Can anyone offer any advice on how to do this and any regulatory requirements? Thanks

are you going to be using the fireplace as a real fire because your house could be in a smoke free zone hence the log burner just asking.

Did the wood burner have a metal flue ?

It would be good as well to post some pictures of the current fireplace opening and also the new insert

Yes I am planning to use as a real fire and have checked with the council and this is fine for the area I live in
