    Hello,

I'm top floor in red sandstone tenement in Glasgow.

We have a Bressumer beam in the bay window in the living room.

I'd like to sink an anchor point for a swinging window seat into the beam.

The beam is lathe and plastered and I'm looking for some advice about getting a secure fixing into the beam...

-can I sink really long screws through the lathe and plaster into the beam or will that not be secure?

    - do I need to expose a part of the beam and skrew directly into it?

I'm using a punch bag mount with 4 screws.

Any advice or insights is very much appreciated,

    Thanks

First you will have to determine the condition of the beam:
    Is it level?
    Is any wood rot present?
Does the beam have approx 100mm - 150mm bearings at either end?
Can you get into the loft above it?

Lath & plaster should be pilot drilled but its fine to drill thro it.
Why not consider eyelet or hook screws?
