Hi just wanted to know if anyone knows where i can get FREE ply-lining drawings for my W reg (2000) Fiat Scudo? Don't want to be spending out a couple of hundred quid when i can do it myself. Also, i'd like drawings for shelving if there are any Cheers
I doubt if you'll find any drawings for this. In any case, many of the pieces will have curved edges so drawings won't help much unless they are full size. This * gives a basic idea of materials to use or just Google 'ply lining Fiat Scudo'. [Edited by: admin]
Having helped a friend to make a set for his van last year I decided to buy a pre-cut set for my own. Doing it for 'free' took time and effort. End result was OK. Just lay a half sheet of ply lengthways parallel to the wall. Make a scribing gauge and scribe the cut line, get the jig saw out and then do the other half. Wheels arches are just simple boxes. Drilling holes into the van frame worried me so we just used a lot of tag ends of silicone (probably about three tubes in total) and bedded the ply onto that. All very easy but time consuming and no fun at all.
I used a roll of paper felt, template, cut out, screwed in. No bother. Saying that i did have one of my old vans done by a firm for less than £200 and tbh it's not a bad price when reckon up all the materials and time involved.
Hi Porkie, As Binfield says scribe it. I have a Citroen Dispatch so I got 6 sheets 12mm ply some self tappers and battens. I spent a good day doing it out with plenty of storage, shelves etc. I think it is wise to have a good think about what you want to store in it. For instance I have 6 of these: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/37407/Hand-Tools/Tool-Storage/Tool-Boxes-Chests/Stanley-Organiser so I have put them all together on two shelves so it is eaasy to get the right one out when you need it. I also put shelves in for elec gear, a 'work' shelf where I can carry out tasks and a ducket to store things I use less often. I have put the shelves on the passenger side of van and left the rest free for larger materials I may need to install etc. If you dont have a steel bulkhead I would be wary about putting shelves on the drivers side - look on you tube at what happens in a crash. Not good mate. Above all honestly have a good think about layout. With my previous van I just did it out one day and was never happy with the layout, but am delighted with the current set up.
Porkie, There are some people on ebay that supply and fit for less than £200. Is it maybe worth leaving them to sort you van our while you continue earning money? Maybe they could even do it where you are working?
I used these people a couple of years ago for my van http://www.demarvan.co.uk/ply_liningkits.asp For £115.00 (fitted if you live near them for free, ) it isn't worth doing it yourself. Considering that price includes the fixings, silicone, metal edges for door ways, etc. They have a picture of the panels required but I think it may be too small to be of any use!!
