Looking for advice - I have installed 3 double glazed units into a mahogany vestibule frame. The units are frosted on one side only and is on the inside of the glass. Which side would you put the frosted side to ? - inside or outside, and why ?. Thanks, Stephen
Yes, if the frosting was on the outside skin of the double glazed unit, but it is on the inside skin.
Thanks for the input guys. to make it clearer, It was a door and 2 side screens with a fan light above. The door is a half panelled oak and glazed door with promenent mouldings to the outside face, this is why I have put the best face of the glass (IMHO) to the outside aswell. Have I done the right thing ? Cheers, Stephen
Who supplied them, and what do they say? (My suspicion is that the frosted pane goes on the outside as I think this is meant to look better despite you personally thinking otherwise. I - obviously - could be wrong, tho' )
o.k, Check that the glass is either tempered (toughened), laminated or both. Any glass within a door up to 1500mm from FFL or within 300mm of either side of a door is classed as a "critical location" and as such is required to be safety glass under part N of the building regs.

" I haven't checked it out, but I was under the impression that it applied to any glass under 800mm that had to be strengthened ????? Mr. Handyandy - really
yes that correct, anything below 800 in any location but 1500 in doors or side lights within 300mm of a door.
i've always had everything in doors or sidelights toughend as standard. thoght that would be commen sense
"yes that correct, anything below 800 in any location but 1500 in doors or side lights within 300mm of a door. " Could you possibly show us/me where you found that info ? Has it recently changed? I have for a long time, thought the 800mm applied to doors also!! Mr. Handyandy - really
Yes, thankyou. While you were gathering that info, I was checking out the Approved document N, and it basically says the same thing. Mr. Handyandy - really
