Does anyone know how to get rid to the disaster that was / is stone cladding. The property we are looking at is a stone clad monster amidst respectable brick and rendered houses and it stands out like a sore thumb.

Please help as I may be able to get the vendor to contribute to the cost of making good this dubious feature.

The only way is to smash the tiles off and clean up the brickwork or render afterwards...quite a messy and expensive job. I would avoid the purchase if you dont like the cladding...

Report the owners to the Police - There has to be a crime against that kind of vandalism

Unphased gave you the answer - Lots of chipping off and you will never return the face of the brickwork to normal so rendering is the only solution.

To get a more accurate pricing to do the work, if anyone will accept it which is unlikely. Need to know the area that has been adulterated. Is access freely available for scaffolding? Is space available to park a skip very close to the works? These factors will have an effect on the price. If the temperature drops then you will be looking at spring before anyone will be able to do it anyway.

Find an area on the wall that is the least visible and remove some of the cladding. You may find that the bricks have a series of cuts on them. They have been scored with an angle grinder, to assist in the adhesion of the mortar. It is likely that the cuts go all over the wall. Therefore you will never have the original finish. You then need to decide if it is worth re-rendering and which finish you want.

We are slowly removing our rendered walls. Chip it off as and when you feel like it. We use small hammers and small cold chisels and scrapers. Time and weathering will help make it easier to remove.
