Grout finishing tool or just sponge

Just curious as to who routinely uses a finishing tool or just a sponge for finishing grout lines. I am tiling a utility room and kitchen splashback, about 6m2 and using Mapei Ultracolour Plus; 2 mm spacers with 250 by 400 tiles. I am fine tuning my skills (or lack thereof) in the utility room, seems to be going Ok, before moving into the kitchen and want to get it spot on.

Have always used a bit of white flex, pulled along the joints when the grout starts to harden up,gives a lovely finish.

Decent sponge that doesn't leave bits everywhere for me.

Thanks for that. I have been using a section of plastic rod about 8mm diameter (old coathanger) which seems to be doing the job Ok and and leaving the grout about 20 minutes before finishing. My only concern was that I might pull too much grout out with the rod before finally sponging off rather than just finishing the grout lines and sponging at the same time just using a sponge.

A decent Grout Sponge - one which has rounded corners on one side.
