Hi, I am in the process of putting 4x4 oak posts onto our patio. Could anyone advise me of the best way to attach the oak 4x2 handrails.

Get some 25mm round dowel. Drill a 25mm hole in rail end and post and glue with the inserted dowel.

You could also use a plug cutter and some screws. Remember oak is corrosive to steel, so passivated and a decent guage screw would be best. You may also end up with staining, so a dowel might be the best option.

Look on You Tube, plenty of video's and differing techniques that may help you decide what is suited to your requirements.;)

Seen brass dowels used in the past.
