They had full access to accounts before the election and lied then and are lying even more now. 11.4 billion to go abroad, Foreign aid should be scrapped completely, except helping ukraine and Israel. Lammy is even giving money to terrorists.

It is an early, and I hope isolated, example of lazy, ignorant 'Boomer' hate made manifest in Labour government policy.

Millennials and their infected GenZ spawn love to use 'Boomers' as whipping boys for the neglect of the house building programme in the last 40 years under both Labour and Conservative governments. If the flavour of government in power can deflect the blame for that neglect they will.

By throwing Millennials/GenZ this bone, punishing the estimated 2 million financially poor pensioners who won't now qualify for the payment, it might at least shut them up for a bit. But wait until they see the bill for all of those 'Boomers' admitted to hospital next winter with pneumonia because they could not afford to heat their homes properly.

Most of you old codgers are rich anyway, you've got cash all round the house you'll have to start spending that o_O

Those damn socialists all they do is hand out benefits.
About 30 years ago when illegal immigrants hid in lorries a lorry driver who had crossed the channel to Dover continued his journey north and stopped for a rest break when 6 immigrants tapped on his door window asking 'Are we in the land of the free money yet', the driver called the police to be arrested and was fined £50,000 for no fault of his own which busted his business.

This was just a taster for 10. High taxes are inevitable! They have been making excuses all week and are now on holiday for 6 weeks. Budget on 20th October is expected to raise tax in almost every aspect bar the headline 20% basic tax and VAT. CGT, IHT, stamp duty, air passenger tax are all expected to go up substantially and every area currently untaxed will be bought under the net.

much of the black hole in finances are created by councils who have no idea how to manage finances responsibly. Why should they, after all, when they run out of money, just declare bankruptcy via section 113 of the local govt act 1972.

the Sunday times had an article of how a small Welsh seaside messed up big time. Under pressure to provide affordable housing, instead of trying to build more they though putting up council tax (up to 400%)on holiday lets hoping it would free up housing stock making it available to locals. Laudable but it did not work out that way.

sure enough a massive number of flats and houses appeared on the market with a massive glut pushing prices down. But a good many of these flats and houses were minuscule with practically no storage space, tiny bedroom and a minimal kitchen never designed for family use. Often near the sea but with no parking or garden. Like most commercial sea front, no schools, GP or any social amenities within walking distance. No local wants these even if affordable.

result, a sharp drop in council taxes as these remain vacant. Worse, lack of holiday accommodation now means no tourists are going there and local businesses reliant on tourists are going bust, depriving the council of business rates. Own goal by any measure.

I think councils should be forced to run a sustainable finance scheme and only funded by central govt if there is a genuine need for it but I doubt the current govt has the will power to do this.
