Hi I could do with a bit of advice, been in a property 4 years now and have always had a bit of a problem with stuff falling down the chimney into my fire place, just sticks and other bits from birds, the fire place isnt in use so more of a pain then anything else, anyway i invested in a chimney pot cowl today to stop the issue, and during fitting the chimney pot itself dropped slightly into the stack (maybe 4 inches). Now theres probably a 2 inch gap around the chimney pot (the chimney pot is fatter at the bottom then the top so as its dropped its left a perfectly round gap where it used to sit).
So my question is can i leave it where it is as it feels pretty secure now and just fill the gap?
And hows best to fill it? Im guessing sand and cement but the problem there would be what is to stop the sand and cement from dropping down the chimney and ending up in my fire place.
    Cheers
