Help with Telescopic extractor unit to fit 600mm wall unit

Hello,
My parents bought a kitchen and all of the appliances from Anglia Interiors in Huntingdon. They have been sold a telescopic extractor fan which is designed to be supported in a 600mm wall unit (remove most of bottom of cupboard and it screws into the sides). The problem is that they designed the kitchen for a 1000mm unit above the hob so it has to fit in the center of a 1000mm wall unit! We have queried this with them twice now and they say their fitters do it all of the time. Despite that they have been unable to tell us how. My partner is a very experienced carpenter / joiner and thinks this is just wrong. He said he could build a support for it but it would look awful. Any helpful comments to help me to tackle the kitchen company would be gratefully received. I think they should just exchange it for a wider extractor fan designed for the larger unit.

Should be easy enough to fit into the 1000 unit. I would create a 600 middle section to screw it into for strength using two bits of material fixed vertically.
It will look a bit odd though but not terrible being 60cm in a 100cm gap. Just not very 'made to measure'. What width is the hob below?

The hob is 600 wide. Thank you for your advice, I just wondered if people do this. The designer was a bit useless as the ovens in the tower plus the 2 doors come to more than the height of the tower unit so we didn't feel very confident with his designing skills!
 
As a fitter I have to work the designers vision into reality. Yes they often cannot design a tower oven unit when it has more than one oven in. Especially if they are non standard sizes!
