Hey! ive recently bought a old flat which is seriously run down.... I didn’t notice the skirting before but it’s concrete? Curved? When I’ve managed to smash some off it’s black inside and smells like tar? Could it be asphalt? I want to put laminate flooring down and carpet in a few rooms. If that doesn’t come off the flooring and carpet won’t look great against that. I’ll add a photo. Does anyone know how I could resolve this issue without having to smash it all off and make a mess ha ha. Thanks so much x ps I have no clue if I’m using this site correctly either

You could always batten and board over the walls.
Be a nice clean finish then and be less hassle

Fit your flooring first then fix new deeper skirting to the face of the old then blank the gap behind off with a piece of 15x15, 18x18, 20x20mm etc whatever the thickness of your original concrete skirting is by gluing and pinning it on.
