Hive Mini Thermostat Install

Hi there,

Was hoping to install a new Hive thermostat myself - but turns out it's not as simple as switching over from the old temperature wheel one...

It's a Hive Mini single channel receiver, and we have a Main Eco Elite combi.

The old one is a simple two wire setup - supplied by twin and earth cable(earth is just loose on both ends). On the boiler side it only has switched live in and 230v live out which is currently hooked up to the old thermostat (as well as the fused neutral, live and earth supply).

I've attached images below.

Can someone advise on the wiring setup for this please? The thermostat requires a permanent live, so could I take that from the live supply on the boiler, then boiler switched live to the 3. Heating ON terminal on the thermostat, and neutral as is?

I can run new 3 core and earth cable - although I have seen someone suggest you would I get away with utilising the earth, marked with a brown sleeve - but I'm guessing I shouldn't do that...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Run another cable with 4 cores.

The earth should be connected through to the tether on the Hive base and to the earth terminal in the boiler.

Use terminals 1 and 3 on the Hive base to connect to 230V live out (2) and switched live in (1) on the terminal block in the boiler respectively.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

So...

Hive Common to - Boiler 230v Line Out (2)
Hive 3 to - Boiler switched live in (1)
Earth etc...

What about the fourth wire?

Also I've seen wiring on these where a loop is used between Permanent live and common on the hive?

Thanks.

My understanding and given the text on the boiler:

The "L: Permanent Live" on the Hive receiver should be connected to the "230V Live Out" (terminal 2) on the boiler. This supplies continuous power to the Hive receiver.

"3: Heating on (NO)" should be connected to the "Switched Live In" (terminal 1) on the boiler. This is the control line that tells the boiler to fire up when heating is needed.

The Neutral (N) on the Hive receiver would need to be connected to the neutral terminal block in the boiler.

Hive "Earth tether" goes to the Earth connection on the boiler.

Or am I getting this completely wrong?

For anyone who stumbles across this looking for the answer...

Connect a loop from "L: Permanent Live" to "1:Common" on the Hive receiver.
