Hole Cutting in Upvc

Discussion in 'Electricians' Talk' started by Hole cutting in upvc, Dec 5, 2006.

  1. I am installing a bathroom in line fan and I need to cut a 100mm hole in my upvc facia boards. Can i use a wood hole cutting bit or is there a special one for plastic?

I would use a fast running Starrett for that job....or similar......

i normally use a diamond core bit - works well on plastics as well as brick - just drill a bit slower

If only one hole, cut out with pad saw

Why buy a 100mm hole saw for one job

You do mean your soffit boards, don't you - underneath ?

Any cutter will do, but beware if they are hollow boards(tongue and groove upvc) as you could smash then to pieces. You have to take them really slowly a nd hardly push at all. If they are 100mm single t&g(running from wall to fascia) use a groove as your centre or you might end up with a couple of little 'floating' bits.

    Mr. HandyAndy - really
