The PIR insulation between the rafters in our eaves is poorly fitted and either falling out, has peeling or punctured foil and there are gaps everywhere. I think the builders cut it all with a butter knife.
We are about to do some work on our loft conversion-style bedroom and I would like to take the opportunity to correct this without having to replace it all because of the cost and difficulty.
My thoughts are to either:
Reposition all existing PIR as best as possible, use expanding foam fill the gaps then cover with either:
1. a foil based roll held in by staples or battens or
2. overlay and additional layer of 25mm pir, fixed to the rafters. Both would be foil taped as much as possible.
We don't have access to the full roof, only the crawl spaces in the eaves either side of our bedroom so getting full 2400x1200 sheets in is impossible so we'd have to do it in sections.
Basically is there a reason not to do this or is there a better way that I am not aware of?
