On a positive note I am pleased to say the iKBBI has been very busy recently and I’ve therefore been unable to keep up with recent postings. On another note the overall tone of posts around the iKBBI has often been similar to that of hyenas around their prey. This may very well be the intent of a number of Screwfix regulars and that’s fine. I guess this type of forum must have its uses however the iKBBI see no need nor value in participating. On reflection the iKBBI is pleased to have tried to communicate on this forum, however moving forward if anyone would like to know more please feel free to visit our website. I’m sorry if I’ve been unable to answer any genuine posts however I fear they would have been quickly lost amongst one too many unqualified, irrelevant or personnel posts. Very few things in life please all the people all the time ... that's the way of the world and we wish you well for the future. Drew
Drew, Sorry you feel this way. There were a number of genuine serious questions and concerns that were raised by myself and several other posters. The answers seemed to have given by posters who may or may not have been members of iKKBI. It would have been better if you had responded to them. As you didn't it was left to Unspoken and Under the Plinth (who ever they maybe) and I'm afraid that just increased the level of scepticism. The Screwfix Forum is probably the single largest best known trade forum in the UK and as such many of the posters on here are genuine tradesmen and I think that you have lost a lot of credence by leaving them floundering. I don't think that you have tried very well to communicate, I can't recall any attempts by you to answer any of the serious questions, admittedly they may have been a bit swamped but that should not have stopped you, if you had been making a seriuos attempt to communicate with the many fitters on here. As a matter of interest I completed your questionnaire recently and I would suggest that the tone of it is set towards mid to large concerns, I can't think of any one man bands (and surely they are the guys you should be targetting) that put together an annual budget and if they do they are highly unlikely to include a specified amount for training. I state this after talking to a number of tradesman that I know in the local area. If you want to be the voice of the fitter, the vast majority of whom are one man bands or maybe 1 plus an "apprentice" then I would suggest that you make more of an effort to answer the questions posed on here. I will admit I am sceptical, as I don't believe that you are concerned with the one man bands. However I am willing to be convinced otherwise. I don't expect any reply to this but then you wouldn't bother anyway would you?
It's fitting kitchens, not saving the world... ikbbi individuals should put energy into something else for gawds sake... you get good fitters, bad fitters, bad fitters that have a good day and good fitters that have a bad day,,, the same goes for customers, the last thing required is more bureaucratic nonsense getting in the way of common sense, just wake up and get on with it, the only thing you need is a level, a hammer, a saw and a pencil, everything else is just BS and that includes fancy stickers and approval of some fan dang in an office who couldn't mitre to lolly pop sticks. good ridence
Ex, I take issue to being labelled as part ofa "whoever they might be" and when I mentioned this before in other posts it's you that didn't hear. I know your opinion on labelling in a forum but it's the wrong assumtion you make and lessens some of the good points you regularly post I said in other posts I am a free thinking kitchen installer who decided to join something I feel will be good for me. It's not for you and I'm not convinced that you could ever be convinced but I never posted here to convince anyone just to tell it as it is for me and defend myself from any insults that are fired each time iKBBI was mentioned. If it doesn't work for me I won't be afraid to post that either if the time comes. Although I sympathise with Drew Carter and his comments about a pack of hyenas, I would have stuck it out no matter what you guys threw back and its a shame he didn't but I guess he felt he was fighting a losing battle with certain posters who may probably have other motives in not wanting to see the iKBBI being a success. My advice to anyone who might consider it a good thing is to base your opinion on facts and speak direct to the iKBBI to ask the questions you want answers to. If you form your opinion on what some of the fitters here say then it's likely that you're being fed BS as RK joiner puts it. I'd bet that most who did post with "Baldy" and "Scroat" insults were either not good enough as fitters or never even met him. RK you list the tools as being the only thing you need but I reckon customers will tell you that you need more than just tools. I won't post on this subject again but I'll always come back to any insults that are directed my way.
"fighting a losing battle with certain posters who may probably have other motives in not wanting to see the iKBBI being a success." Hope you're not including me in that, I couldn't care less if they are a success or not. If they did become a success, which I consider extremely unlikely due to the factors which have already been mentioned dozens of times, then the only possible effect that would have on me would be to make it more difficult for me to get work, unless I joined. If that were to be the case, then I would join and simply add the fee to the first job I got as a result. But the chances of them becoming a success are so small that I'm far more likely to won the lottery and not give a ** anyway.
UTP, sorry did not mean to offend. I'm agrieved that Drew lobbed in a hand grenade and left others to defend hostile questionning.
I would be the first to admit that I'm sceptical of such schemes, however I feel that EX makes a good point there. Drew didn't take the time to respond to some very good questions raised on this forum. That in itself doesn't bode well for the future of the IKBBI, when the main man himself doesn't seem to be bothered answering points raised on this forum. This and the fact that Drew himself wasat one time connected with MFI does not fill me with confidence. We have all seem the way that MFI have gone in recent months. Yet another post was put on about someone advertising for fitters for a contract but , membership of the IKBBI was a must to get a foot in the door. Even worse, the fact that the person concerned is connected directly to the IKBBI. Still I wish the IKBBI all the best for the future.
I wasn't going to say any more about this subject, but there does seem to be the feeling that Drew simply chose not to answer the questions that were put. It is my opinion that reason that he didn't respond is that if he had answered the questions it would have put the iKBBi in a bad light. For instance, there are two ideas at the heart of any institute. Those are- a) that it should act on behalf of its members. b) that only people who have met the recognised standards are allowed to join. There is no 'Institute' in this country which does not hold to these two precepts. Now, when the iKBBi was set up, they faced a problem, how could they ensure that its members met the standards required of them? Well, the normal system of institute membership is that the candidate is trained in some recognised way- apprenticeship, college, university etc. Having done that, they then have to take tests, or pass exams, or have their work inspected. Trouble is, all of these things cost money, certainly more than the membership fees were likely to cover. As we all now know, the iKBBi simply sidestepped the issue. Therefore they are unable to answer any questions relating to the professional standards, and therefore didn't answer the main question put to them. It wasn't that they chose not to answer, they couldn't answer without showing up the weakness that is att he very heart of their 'institute'.
Gary Favell MFI MD has screwed up MFI just like he screwed up Magnet. But I will absolutely guarantee you he will come out of it with no financial problems.
shame its not ikkkkkbbbbs "last post", perhaps we could get on with some positive things to talk about again.
"shame its not ikkkkkbbbbs "last post", perhaps we could get on with some positive things to talk about again. " Well, to be fair, it doesn't stop us talking about anything else, so feeel free to start a topic!
Hi Ex Kitchen Fitter, You mentioned about the iKBBI ... "I don't believe that you are concerned with the one man bands". Simply I would ask you to look at who we're actually supporting (smaller busineses) and what they think ... http://www.ikbbi.org.uk/Installer-members-say.asp Please have a look as I would appreciate your view after reading. I feel this, if nothing else is what we're trying to do. Drew
so , anyways , there i was talking to these two birds.......tweet tweet...lol , I know some of the guys on your bumtp , most are ex mfi , found themselves out in the cold this year and figured membership could nt hurt , however I can promise you they did nt write the endorsements as you ve printed them / editorial creativity ?? me thinks , on a positive note word must be getting about if they ve customers going gee whizz you re a member of ibkki and i want you to fit my kitchen .
Drew, Dont bother with ex he cant work any more so is bitter and twisted and kitchenhero whoever he or she is and i think it is a she, based on her bitchiness, is failing miserably and probably owed loads from MFI.
