I'm fitting a Ikea 12v hal lighting system. Its the one with the 2 wires that are bolted each side of the room, then the transformer and lights are connected to these wires.

What I want to do is put transformer up were old ceiling light is. I was thinking it would be OK to push through to the loft space the entire ceiling rose assembly, so that only the wire to the light shows through hole, then connect transformer to the wire. The hole would be covered as the transformer housing is 7" diameter.

Some advise from you lovely sparkies would be appreciated

PS I see that everyone says not to use choc blocks, but the transformer has one to connect power to. Why is this OK and not anywhere else?

Would be better to remove the celing rose and replace it with a 4 terminal juction box and leave that in the celing as you can then ensure thare are no exposed terminals.
