I'm not a builder but need advice

Hi guys,

Firstly let me start by saying I'm not a builder but often look on here for helpful tips and find it such a helpful place. Now I'm undertaking a little project, I would love it if someone could help me directly.

I'm going to build a little porch on my house, it's round the back and not going to be seen, although I'm reasonably competent with things, it doesn't matter if it isn't 100%

It will be a cavity wall and basic pitched roof, all the basics I totally understand but am struggling with 2 things.

Firstly is the damp coursing and DPM. I know I have to put a vertical DPC in the wall, and I know the DPC goes laterally into the wall at the same as house level. My question is how do you tie all that with DPM together? New DPC to existing DPC especially. Do I gently cut the house dpc line and try and wedge it in? And tape it all up?

And secondly is the door threshold blockwork. I have seen some people leave the inner leaf the same level as the outer leaf, is this the way to do it or do I leave the inner leaf off and concrete and insulate upto the outer leaf. If so how do you stop all the concrete going in to the cavity, does the DPM just hold it? No idea

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this. Got the basics, just need the technical part!
