No, what she said doesn't mean what you think it means. If you take your brexit-tinted specs off and re-read the what you've quoted in your post, it's quite clear she's talking about Germany acting for the common good rather than narrow self interest. JJ knows full well that his wishful interpretation is almost certainly wrong - really cannot possibly be right - as it's a complete 360o of Merkels' true values.
If he had functioning critical faculties to any degree whatsoever, the sheer ludicrousness of his claim would have given him pause.
So why does he do it? How does he think he can get away with it? How can he be so staggeringly and wilfully dishonest?
The answer is simple - he is a member of a cult. I do not mean that flippantly - I really do mean he has suspended rationality because of his chosen allegiances.
In his time on here he has said pretty much everything and anything, as self-contradictory as the current days are short, as long as he hoped, wished, he was making a counter-Remain point.
He has never, to my knowledge, been totally honest on Brexit, and has often been blindingly & knowingly dishonest. And he has never been challenged by his other cult members.
