The front of my terraced house has always been painted with oil-based gloss. I want to use a masonry paint instead. Would a throrough abrasion with a wire brush suffice to key the surface?

Also, would you recommend, Sandtex, Johnstone's or Dulux?

Look into using Zinsser Bullseye 123 as a high adhesion primer over the gloss paint, wash the wall first to remove crud etc and make any repairs required prior to priming. Any of the above paints will do the job but Dulux Trade will probably have the edge over the other brands you mention.

I would use zinnser coverstain and leave it a week then on with the waterbased. Ring zinnser help line or drop them a message... There are waterbased options but I would take advice first as you don't want the front pealing off. Got one chance to get that right

Interested to hear what they say as either product would do the job.

My local paint store recommended that.

Zinsser 123 would work but ideally you want a clean and de glossed surface.. Not easy to do that outside on rough surface. Think I go with some solvent to prime... See what technical say

Well, sanding with my wee electric 1/3 sheet sander (wasn't too difficult up the ladder), followed by one coat of Zinsser 123 and two coats of Sandtex did the trick.

Thanks everyone for all you kind help and attention.
