Kitchen extractor point

Hi I wonder if anyone can help or point me in the right direction. I want to add an induction hob on a kitchen island and I have an open plan kitchen as well and I understand that an extractor fan would be good as it will get rid of smells etc... the questions that I have are
1. Is a downdraft extractor any good so that way I can put the ducted installation through the floor board before I add my new laminate and then directly outside length will be approx 2 metres from kitchen island to outside wall
2. I am having a flat roof which is not done yet so would it be good to add a ceiling extractor and this can be ducted to the roof is that a better idea
Your support and Answers would be appreciated and also which would be more effective and efficient. Thanks

You could do either. ceiling mounted would be easier and cheaper as you're yet to do the roof. I've decided not to bother with a chimney extractor and fit a 60l/second wall mounted fan. Partly because I don't like extractors but mainly because I have no route to an external wall from above the island

If it were my kitchen i think i would go with an island ceiling mounted extractor. A couple of reasons for that. 1st because they tend to have more powerful motors. 2nd because heat, steam and smells rise anyway. 3rd because it won't take up any storage space, unlike a downdraft extractor.

I'm with kitfit1 on this one. I stepped away from the downdraft ones because steam naturally rises so already it is trying to get away from the fan. Never seen one in use but I would imagine they are ok if the pans are close to them, for example at the back.
Gone for the ceiling option. Minimal work for a fan that is being natural fed.
