I had a a problem with the Mixer Tap in my Kitchen. The Cold Tap was slipping and wouldn't turn off with a single turn. I fixed this original problem by tightening the screw.

This problem with the screw has now returned This time when I tighten the screw It does not stay tight or if it does I get no water when Cold Tap head is turned. The Hot Tap works fine its the Cold Tap that's the problem one

Any ideas what I can do to fix this? thanks If I can't fix this myself does anyone know how much a plumber would charge for this job? I am in East Central Scotland Thanks.

Here are pictures of the Mixer Tap.

The spline with teeth on the top of the valve should fit snug inside the the tap head.
Has the brass spline on the valve, or the inside of the tap head that pushes on the spline, become rounded.
Close up photograph of both would help confirm their integrity.

the tap body just screws out adjustable spanner will do it, eg see https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-1-2-bsp-quarter-turn-ceramic-tap-glands-pack/2611f , or https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-1-2-bsp-full-turn-brass-threaded-tap-glands-pack/7960f if they are theu piston type if you are not sure of the size just pop it into a plumbing store and they will match it, I would replace two as they have been there for some time..

easy fix - turn the water off and drain....if the cartridge is stuck back and forth till it goes.

Judging by what appear to be cracks in the tap body and spout ,it may be time to fit a new tap !

There is no crack in the tap body. That is how the tap was made in the first place lol. Most taps of this type of construction were made by Astracast 30 years ago. At the time they were the cheapest of the cheap taps you could buy.
The fact that this tap is still fitted, let alone working (sort of) beggers belief. OP, just replace the tap and donate the one in your pics to some museum.
