Kitchen waste into rainwater pipe

We live in the bottom flat of a Victorian conversion with presumably a combined sewer. The flat above us has recently completed major alterations and their contractors have connected their new kitchen waste to an existing rainwater hopper at first floor level, which merges with other RWPs and eventually discharges above the grate of a rainwater gully in our garden.

The owners say that this was the simplest solution and that mixing foul and rainwater should not be an issue as the drains are combined below ground level anyway. The building has always had separate foul and rainwater pipes above ground. Do you think their solution is reasonable or should their kitchen waste be connected to one of the existing foul pipes nearby. Thanks.

    A bodge in my book.

Would prefer to use existing foul pipe, went to place years ago, strange smell & a hopper flooding, found hopper head blocked solid with food waste, mostly fat, where flat above kitchen waste pipe emptied into this hopper.
The down pipe about 4mtrs length was was almost blocked solid with fat, food waste, moss from roof & other crud.

I agree, it will inevitably block up meaning you then get flooded when it rains and all their kitchen grey water over you garden. Plus the congealed fats and deposits will be a vermin magnet.

Thank you for all your advice - we've had enough rodent problems in previous years.
