Kitchen window sill tiles

Hi

I have moved into a house and looking for advice on kitchen window sill and how to fix it.

I previously had tiles on the window sill however the grout started to crack and the tiles started to lift.

we have taken everything off back to brick and it is a bit damp, need some advice on how to sort it out and make it a dry area to be able to tile. I have attached some pictures below, can anyone help on what needs to be done step by step to stop this problem happening again with the tiles :)

Many thanks :)

First thing to establish is why is it damp. Rectify that, level it up with skim of tile adhesive leave to go off then tile as normal

before skimming with adhesive give the area two coats of sbr first one 1:3 with water second one neat

Would it have to be plastered first or anything before putting tile adhesive on as it is just stone and it’s very cold and has huge gaps in it? Also where could the water be coming from?

From looking at your picture no need to plaster, adhesive will do fine to build it up to flush with the rest. Make sure to sbr the old surface first. In relation to the water I’m not sure, how wet is it? Was the area prone to being wet while the tiles were bad?

The window is almost level with the yard outside due to the layout of the house could that have anything to do with it

Yeah it’s possible the water is sitting against the wall and getting in some way, someone else might come along and advise better on that
