I would be interested if anyone has used the Leyland Heavy Duty Floor Paint.
Previously I have used Wickes garage floor paint but it sticks to hot car tires better than to concrete ;)
I understand that a lot of Wickes paint is supplied by Leyland so maybe the Leyland paint from Screwfix is the same as Wickes.
I would like to use something more robust than Wickes without going to the very expensive Epoxy floor paints.
    Any advice / recommendations?

  2. Hi Stuart,

I have used the Leyland paint, and found it a similar problem. Dulux, Glidden, and Bolloms do an excellent floor paint. You need to seal the concrete first, then apply two coats of any of the above. Also I suggest you leave it for about a week to fully cure before putting a car on it. The tin will tell you that you can drive on it after 24 hours.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Bob.

I have had a quick search around on the internet and these paints do not seem to be generally available. I guess I need to find a decent paint specialist. Anyone know any good paint suppliers in Fleet/Hampshire?

    Thanks,
    Stu.

  4. Hi Stu,

    Try www.duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk I think.

    Hi Bob,

I tried my local Dulux trade centre and they can supply some good Dulux floor paints - with and without mixed aggregate for the same price as other cheaper brands. Of particular interest is the 2-pack Epoxy floor paint branded as ICI Epo-Dur - mixed to give 5Ltrs for approx £90 inc VAT. This looks like a much more robust floor covering and probably the one I am going to go for. It is available to order - approx 2 days delivery to the shop.

    Thanks for your advice,
    Stu.

Does the epoxy floor paint adhere to existing floor paint or does this need to be removed ?

    would 5L paint a 14' by 6' floor ?

    Cheers

    Hi DiyHopeful,

I have been told by the Dulux shop that 5ltrs will cover my double garage floor which is 5.4m x 5.2m - approx 30sqm. They said that this would be plenty. I think the cover is approx 9sqm per litre. I am not sure if I can apply one thick coat or try for two coats - I would like to use up all the paint rather than waste it.

    BR,
    Stu.

    Stuart,

It is better to use one generous coat rather than two as the paint may have a nice shiny surface and therefore the second coat will not adhere to it, it will say on the instructions.

Make absolutely sure the concrete floor is really clean, CUT out any oil drip/stains - you can fill in with some concrete repair compound - but leave to cure for 28 days. Also for best adhesion seal the floor with a primer before using the paint - this also has the benefit as a barrier against damp.

  11. Hi Stu,

Check the tin or speak to Dulux, I think you apply in two coats (not done one for about 6 months).

If you apply 1 thick coat it will take forever and a day to fully cure (you could end up leaving tyre treads in the paint).

Dulux will point you in the right direction.

If you need further assistance just reply.

    Regards
