Light bulb blew an tripped breaker.

Throwing a little spanner in the works. Lol. Took the bulb out and the MCB has tripped again. Would that still suggest the pendant?
You have two things to do in this instance, I fully suspect the problem lies above your pendant as if it is tripping regardless to a bulb fitted or the light switched on or off and still trips is highly unlikely it is your pendant at fault. If you replace the pendant you will more likely still have the problem. I am now assuming without seeing the circuit that the light that is giving you problems is near to the trap hatch?

Remove the pendant from the rose fitting and see if MCB still trips, that would at least rule the pendant fitting out.
You either have a dead short somewhere or a dodgy MCB !

dodgy MCB would affect all lights on the circuit, this is isolated to one light only, the bulb is proven to work in other lights but not in the one that is the problem one. That is certainly not a dodgy MCB.

Yes it would. With the electricity TURNED OFF, take a picture of the ceiling rose connections, the disconnect the pendant. If the mcb no longer trips, you have your fault. Please post a photo of your consumer unit, saying which device is tripping.

As I understand it ,the MCB is tripping when there is no bulb in the fitting in question and no switches that operate it are used,so it's tripping for no apparent reason connected specifically to the light fitting in question.
Is this so ??

You think a faulty MCB can affect one light only? Have you read his posts and symptoms..:eek:

It trips with bulb in and out. Trips when switches are off.

It's not near the trap hatch. It's in middle of landing. The trap hatch is in the cupboard next to the toilet. Nearest light in the cupboard and on the same circuit and works.

He has stated that if he puts the bulb in the affected light and turns it on then it doesnt work, but if he puts the same bulb in another light fitting then it works. Therefore the bulb is fine but a problem with that light, either pendant as you suggest or above the light as I suggest.

That's the MCB that's tripping. It's the circuit for all the upstairs lights.

OK justt to clarify that if you put a good bulb in the light and switch it on it doesnt work regardless, but if you take the same bulb out and put it in a light on the same circuit then the bulb works?

Ok then ignore Adjl with the circuit breaker issue. It isnt that at fault. As Terry suggested try fitting another pendant but i suspect the problem lies with the wiring above the pendant. It is one of those two things mate.
I suggested more recently to remove the pendant completely from the rose.
Given the fact that the MCB trips when switches are off and no bulb is fitted ,that would be indicative of a short circuit .

Exactly mate, thats why I think it is the wiring above the pendant. Also the light doesnt work with a good bulb in it but works on another light on the same circuit.

But the photo doesn't show a permanent live at the rose, hence my request for a picture of the switch wiring.
