Hi all. Having problems with a light fitting with a connection block. This connection block has three ports. The instructions are telling me reds together blacks together and earth together however playing havoc with upstairs lighting... Any ideas

Pics of your wiring at the ceiling, and the light fittings terminal block would be helpful.
Do you have any voltage testing instruments ?
How many red wires, and how many black wires are present ?

That would have been useful... 3 wires 3red/3black/3earth. I do have a voltage checker but I think but vever really used it.

The 3 reds go together in an insulated terminal block ,and do not connect to the light fittings terminal block. One of the blacks is likely to be the switched live and may have a bit of red tape or sleeving on it to denote it is such, and you will need to establish which of the 3 blacks it is, as it goes into the live terminal of the light fitting. The other 2 blacks are neutrals and go together into the light
    fittings neutral terminal.
And of course all earth wires connect to it's earth terminal.

When you say playing havoc was it tripping the breaker?

So I have all 3 reds in one block all the earth's in one and I have switched around all 3 black wires into the live block to the pendant and no lighting apart from one which must be the start of the loop.. Frustrating

    Like this?

When you put a black in the live you are putting the other 2 to neutral I assume?

    Your connections don't look great.
Also you need to sleeve the earths green and yellow.

    Do you have any testers?

Show us a pic of the tester/s. You need to establish which black wire is the switched live, and if you have fried the switch when you previously wired up incorrectly and tripped the breaker

If your not confident might be the time to call an electrician.

If you want to try turn all the power OFF, separate each red and black into pairs, set your tester to continuity and put the probes on red and black then operate the light switch ( you might need help for this) the one that makes the tester bleep on and off is the cable to the light switch.
