Tens of thousands have died needlessly because of this virus through being denied treatment for the conditions that really do kill en masse.
You know, the cancers, heart attacks and respiratory illnesses. Not to mention the old folk who are simply giving up because they have no meaningful -one on one- contact with their friend and family.
Then there's those who have lost businesses and jobs due to this virus and have needlessly committed suicide.
The virus is here, it's unavoidable, the measures put in place to somehow curtail its spread are very much avoidable so therefore I do agree that a tiny percentage of our population have died needlessly because of this virus.
But no, of course I dont give a damn...
I voted to leave the EU.

To me it feels like I’m back at school, and someone has been naughty, so the teacher keeps the whole class back. Covid IS a thing we know that but you can’t hide forever.....maybe its a bit of darwins law....?

Daughter 22, tested positive 4 weeks ago. Dog rough and very ill with it. Before cycled 20 miles every other day for fun ... right now can't walk upstairs without being out of breath.
Not allowed back to work as a Paramedic until her sense of taste and smell return
... on the flip side her boyfriend who didn't isolate from her right up to the diagnosis, or after by all accounts ( rather foolishly ? same bed) has weekly tests through his work and didn't catch it off her.
Firebreak in Wales worked to bring the numbers down ... but are they going to go up again ... most probably but you can't lock everyone away forever as the Country has to recover physically, emotionally and more importantly, economically (at the risk of being shot down for that, my wife is high risk vulnerability with no immune system as such, but life has to go on)

He should have isolated anyway.
A negative test does not allow avoidance of isolation.
No-one is suggesting that everyone should be locked away for ever. That is another recourse to absurdity.
But you can protect the vulnerable, mitigate the worst, etc.
It's about reduction, not eradication. If eradication were possible, that would be the policy.
... I agree on both counts. Sadly whilst it's in the hands of 'people' ... living in a rural part of Wales and seeing the influx of holiday home owners during 1st and 2nd English lockdown, you realise that common sense doesn't really exist, or it's a I don't give a damn attitude ? That said I know 'locals' not adhering/ taking precautions and it annoys the carp out of me
I guess my point was that shutting 'non essential' shops doesn't work if you're going to have a mass convergence when they re-open. With the chances of figures escalating again.
Keep businesses open, and try to get people to be sensible (if some have that gene), for the sake of the economy because this is going to be something we pay for, for a long time in the future
Covid has affected me in that we haven't seen our son at all this year, our daughter only twice and 2 surgeries that were scheduled for April and May to enable me to go back to work,
haven't happened yet ... with no financial help apart from a private insurance and using savings to live

I find it curious that so many are having a real hard time with just doing as they have been asked to. There is a lot of anti-authority, anti-establishment and anti-social behaviour and mentality going on. It reminds me of growing up in the 80s... which was a messed up time in the history of this country.
I also wonder what their take was on the AIDS and HIV pandemic in the 80s and 90s... did they go about telling everyone that AIDS is fake and you should just have sex without a condom with whoever you fancy, whenever you fancy.
These are the people that we roll our eyes at in history. Most of us have learned about the Bubonic Plague at school or from TV and we know about all the crazy ideas people had at the time with how to protect themselves from it and how they behaved. I thought we had come a long way since 1348. Clearly not.

Apparently, a lot of people with houses in our area are Parisians with second homes, it's easily noticeable from their vehicle reg plate. Our neighbours are one such example, but they normally come from time to time to take care of their house and garden. Anyway, they're far too nice to be mean to!
The mass convergence after a lockdown is not so bad, because there will be far fewer infected people.
Now the same mass convergence before lockdown is the real problem!
Maybe the lockdowns should have very little warning to prevent such mass convergence.
