loft insulation and wiring

Discussion in 'Electricians' Talk' started by jonniejoejonson, Jan 3, 2021.

  1. The sparky has fixed the cables for the both lighting and sockets to the sides of the joists in the loft and then dropped them down to where they need to go.

    My question is:

I am about to put insulation into the loft.

Should this be laid over the top of the joists above the wires or can it also go between the joists and therefore effectively smothering the wires?

    Thanks to any responders.

The lighting you should be fine however the cable carrying capacity of 2.5mm T+E when used with reference method 101 is down to 17Amps.

I am guessing this is a bungalow with solid floors which is why the socket cables are in the loft?

You really need to upgrade the T+E to 4mm, is it 4mm? If not you need to either upgrade the cable or choose a different reference method.
