Hi I'm about to lay new loft insulation in my daughter's house (1910 build). 1) Can you lay the insulation over cables 2) intend to lay either solid insulation board or block fibre type.
It depends on the cables and the current loads being used. In general, and with modern lower energy lights being used, then laying insulation of lighting wiring should not be a problem. But the cables of other circuits, such as sockets, showers etc may need increasing in size, or the cables rerouted. Best to get a competent electrician in to give you guidance. PS are there downlights in the ceilings? Are they capable of being covered over (not all are).
Hi, Yes there are down lights, which I'd make sure weren't covered up. Cooker ccts are under ground floor so I'd be ok there. Thank you
If you leave a gap round your downlights then you’ll lose heat, which will remove some of the benefit of the insulation. some downlights allow insulation over the top. (Check the spec). Otherwise you can fit downlights insulation guards part 97932 Or (much cheaper) something like this https://www.thermahooddirect.com/bu...w6uTKC_V-bJMCzwsZ9kZPotHvQvHinghoCrCYQAvD_BwE The insulation can then just cover over everything.
