    sorry couldn't resist that one!
    I use a software programme supplied by City Electrical factors.It goes into great detail about colour of walls, floors, ceilings etc.What the room is used for,height of ceilings.But if you can wait till tomorrow I will dig it out of the office and work something out for you.I'm knackered and off to bed now. Night night everybody out there in sparky land.

    I found the software but for some reason it won't load up on the computer.I'll try again over the weekend and report back.

    P = b / (?e ?r ls) (1)
    where
    P = installed electric power (W/m2 floor area)
    b = recommended light level (lux, lumen/m2)
    ?e = light equipment efficiency
    ?r = room lighting efficiency
    ls = emitted light from the source (lumen/W)

    The lux rating for a floresent blub is around 50-90 per watt.

    grr this message board does not like the maths char set, i'll try again:

    P = b / (e r ls)

    where

    P = installed electric power (W/m2 floor area)
    b = recommended light level (lux, lumen/m2)
    e = light equipment efficiency
    r = room lighting efficiency
    ls = emitted light from the source (lumen/W)
