    Quick one i hope!

When is it mandatory to put in a mains fire alarm?

and extraction fans for toilet, kitchen, utility rooms etc?

    1,When changing a CU?
2,Rewiring the affected room which requires an extraction fan or fire alarm?
    3,House rewire?

    Is there any others?

I was told that if you had a window the toilet room you still require a extraction fan.

If you look in the green guidance book it explaines it all

I wasn't 100% certain that when doing the below work that you had to make sure that there was a Mains Fire alarm and Extraction Fan Fitted in the the House for 1,2 and 3. Any throughs?

    1,When changing a CU?
2,Rewiring the effected room which requires an extraction fan or fire alarm?
    3,House rewire?

New to domestic, but do people think or say " I only want a new fuse board, but if i want this new fuse board or room rewired i have to have my floor ripped up for a Mains fire alarm and have a 4" hole in my toilet and a 6" hole in my kitchen,as well as chasing in the cable."

and then you tell him the cost!! He's said "How much!! ** *"

No job, bad rep for over pricing and making up work

i didn't get any hard answers.
    So is this correct?
On changing a CU = mandatory to put in a mains fire alarm
    and Extraction fans not mandatory

rewiring room = mandatory to both

    re-house = mandatory to both

    sparasaurus is right.

    The answer is
    i) whenever building control are involved eg extensions
ii)when a Fire officer or Letting Agency has deemed it necessary eg Letting a premises out or a starting a B&B
iii)when it is in an insurance policy eg holiday home

    However I always advise a Grade D LD3 system as a minimum when doing a re-wire
    A CU change...never

    Point to note;

When fitting a toilet fan always put it on a run-on timer.
Fell foul of this recently on a shop re-fit where i put the fan to come on and off with the light. Building Control guy wasn't too happy but we got away with it because it wasn't detailed on the plans.

How often do you fit smoke detectors in toilets and bathrooms?

I was pretty sure it is mandatory to instal hard wired smokes/heats when rewiring a property, also there is a little box on EIC`s asking how many.
