Why don't you mark the top of the tile?

China pencil is ideal for tile marking on surface.

At the risk of most posters ridiculing anyone who could even remotely consider using B&Q!

You can get 2 tile pencils (correctly called chinagraph pencils) from B&Q for £2 I think. I always use them & mark the top face for cutting.
