"Lessons will be learned" The usual stuff from politicians, both local and national. Yep hard lessons will be learned, but you have to ask yourself "Will they be acted upon?"

The insulation appears to be Kingspan/Celotex as opposed to Rockwool, considering both are widely used is this a concern?

In theory I agree with that. The MPs are elected to represent their constituents after all. But it's a party political system and you elect party political candidates. A range of views exist within the parties of course but if you join a party you're probably pretty onside with the core of that party's views aren't you. So I think I'd be inclined to take your reasoning further and disband the parties completely :D

You know what, I always thought that kingspan/celotex insulation would at least be fire resistant, but it appears not to be so.
The stuff burns like a gud-un.

Rockwool on the other hand doesn't share these properties, it does soak up water like a sponge though, which could make it unsuitable for exterior cladding purposes, especially in the UK.

I'm pleased to see that, Corby has resorted to his usual partisan stance and announced the populist rhetoric of "houses should be made available for the community affected by this disaster, using requisitional powers in a peace time situation if needs be".
    Go, Jeremy!
    What a chump!

Do you not think that the 1800 odd empty houses and flats in the borough could and should be used as temporary housing then?

If the borough council owns them, then, yes they should be used.

I watched 20 minutes or so of newsnight or something similar tonight, BBC, absolutely appalling coverage. I'll be the first to admit that Theresa Mays response left a hell of a lot to be desired, slow to respond and shocking how she failed to meet the victims, but for Christs sake the BBC would almost have you believe that she torched the building herself.
As for the implication that absolutely nothing was done for the victims other than by volunteers from the general public, there will be hundreds of council workers in London who gave there time to man emergency centres providing food and shelter who wont be too happy about that suggestion.
I finally had to switch off when they showed footage of 'bussed in' protesters wielding their 'socialist worker' placards.
    Shame on you BBC.

  10. And releases highly toxic fumes in the process. Which, in this hellish case, might have been a good thing :(

  15. How dare those poor people object to living in high rise accomodation that is a fire risk. They can sleep on the floor at a local gym until it is rebuilt surely.

If they went out to work they would be able to afford to get their own accomodation couldn't they.

Or is this a sign of what has happened to the housing market, and is killing our living standards? That includes ours!

The sympathy and compassion from the right is under whelming

I too was shocked, though not surprised to see the SWP out in central London last night. There was the one big vigil/protest in Kensington largely made up of residents and then there was this small group waving SWP placards marching through central London chanting may out.
The SWP are a cult of authoritarian rapist apologists who have been a thorn in the side of 'the left' for decades. Hijacking protests and marches, instigating violence and behaving like the left's version of the BNP at every turn.
Their attempted hijack of this hideous event just shows what scum they really are. And I'm talking about the cc, the leading group. The foot soldiers are just good hearted but weak minded fools who follow the scum that order them about in a quasi Stalinesque obsession with their own power and delusion.

By all means rail against the SWP but to think they represent the left is the same as thinking the BNP represent the right.

What about the empty properties owned by Russian or Chinese or US citizens as long term investments with no intention of either occupying or letting them?

I'm not arguing that the SWP weren't out in Central London last night but this picture wasn't taken then and there was it...It's an unrelated picture last modified over a year ago ;)
    Dishonest?
    Much?

  19. If there was a 'post makes me feel a bit sick' button, I may have clicked.

I know it's pointless replying on here, but hey.

Once again - as it was all the way through the Brexit threads - some are happy to take the behaviour of a few individuals and abuse it to their political ends.

Anyhoo, anyone else notice how the 'ethnic' and 'immigrant' survivors and relatives of the deceased behaved with such moving dignity and articulacy - often in their 2nd or 3rd language - when describing the heart-breaking events? Blimey, it's almost as if 'these' people are as civilised as us Brits.

Anyhoo, did you know that Germany, too, has outlawed these claddings following some fiery incidents in their country - little prevarication there even tho' the country is apparently run a despot who is working towards a Third Reich?

Anyhoo, did you know that one of the sought-after 'advantages' of a Brexit postulated by some Leavers was a relaxing of the demands on housing standards from the EU on our Sceptred Isle?

Hey, no, I don't apologise for Brexiting this thread.

Someone on here said he believes there must be two types of people who populate the world and this forum. I couldn't agree more.
