The country has been crying out for lower housing costs and more social housing. Both of which would help the real economy more.

Construction projects help the economy both nationally and on a more local scale.
The developers do make a healthy profit I'm sure, but that is the business they're in and they run the business to make a profit, there's nothing new in that.
Then, think about the number of different companies that will be involved in the planning, construction and sales/letting phases. All of these will also be making a profit (greedy gits) and employing people at the same time. Then there's the ongoing maintenance contracts that will provide employment and profit. You get the idea.
Not to mention the 10th of thousands of pounds the local authority will receive in council tax payments every year.

I agree that the country on the whole needs more affordable and social housing, but that's another problem.

The block is run by KCTMO but the management committee includes 8 residents, which includes both tenants and leaseholders. The local council still retains control over the budget of the organisation.

2 - Labour hold the seat that the block is situated in.
Labour does indeed hold the local council seat in which Grenfell tower is situated, but that's just one of seven Labour seats on the council (40 Tory, 7 Labour, 3 Lib-Dem). Noting that the tower block is in one of the very few non-Tory wards in Kensington and Chelsea is an obvious distraction tactic.

3 - Labour run the London Council who manage the under funded London Fire Service
As noted above Kensington and Chelsea council is a Tory controlled council, and has been a Tory controlled council since its inception in 1964. The idea that Kensington and Chelsea council manage the fire services of the entire city of London is transparent nonsense. Why would anyone bother to invent such a ludicrous lie? It is true that fire service advice to high rise tenants is often to remain within their properties, but had the fire authorities known that the private contractors had cut corners by cladding the entire building in flammable plastic, I'm pretty sure they would have issued very different advice.

The decision to outsource so much refurbishment work to unaccountable subcontractors and sub-subcontractors was a total mess. At the top of the pyramid of responsibility was still the Tory controlled local council which had to sign off on the bills.

7 - the decision not to spend a paltry £138k on fitting sprinklers again KCTMO.
Who knows where this £138,000 spend on sprinklers comes from? The building wasn't fitted with sprinklers (despite a succession of Tory housing ministers spending four years sitting on a report calling for sprinklers in tower blocks to avoid a repeat of the Lakanal fire in 2009).

1. Not true, in 2002 KCTMO took of the capital expenditure from the council. 2002 KCTMO took over the responsibility for major capital works from the Council to access extra resources and funding to enable KCTMO to bring the properties up to the Decent Homes Standard.

Yes, that does indeed happen on a regular basis, the 'regular' being a rather important consideration. The airlines will have systems in place for these circumstances, as they happen regularly and these companies have implemented policies to deal with it. Borough councils aren't faced with this kind of situation on a weekly basis, and there's no policies in place to immediately deal with it.
Then, who is to say the hotels would accept these people on an indefinite timescale in the first place, they could refuse.
Maybe legislation could be forced through parliament to deal with that, but I doubt it.
 
Corbyn going to appear on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, that should get the great unwashed juices flowing.

My missus worked for many years at Slough Borough Council, as with all borough councils (I thought), there was emergency plan in place. It involved community centres for accommodation and services, doctors, emergency workers and even, believe it or not, vets, to take care of the old biddys cat if anything untoward happened to the old biddy.
Mrs filly was on a 'list' of people to be called on and that did happen once when a street was evacuated because of a garage fire involving gas cannisters.
They took over the local community centre, fed and bedded people down for the night, she put in a 24 hour shift that day.
She was quite surprised that the support was as lacking as it appeared to be given it was a London borough, she also mentioned that when any training for such matters is required, it used to be at Westminster council (Tory run). They were always the top council in the country for everything, and of course incredibly wealthy due to their income from parking fines, the beggars caught me at least three times.

I think you may be a bit behind the times. Glastonbury isn't populated by the great unwashed these days. It's populated by those with a fair amount of disposable income....have you seen the prices of these huge festivals nowadays? Truly shocking.

Maybe he is ignorant, but regardless of that, it was a populist proposal aimed at getting a resounding cheer from his followers and to convert a few other 'wealth hating' numbskulls to his ideology.
