    Hello

I'm an absolute amateur in the third stage for my first DIY project of a display cabinet housed inside an unused chimney breast

    IMG_20230309_231556.jpg

I have some 6mm recessed led profiles that I want to place into the front of the 18mm MDF

Im concerned if I route out 6mm from the 18mm MDF to place the channels it will significantly reduce the weight the shelves can take or cause an other issues, the shelves are supported by 3x2 cls timber every 30cm

Does anyone know if this will be a problem or am I worrying about nothing

    I'd really appreciate any guidance

    Thank you

Unless you are intending to display a collection of gold bricks, or concrete kerbstones, you have really overbuilt these shelves. The good thing is, it really won't matter if you rout a 14x6mm channel in the underside of the mdf- all the strength is in your cls framework.

Ive got 9mm MDF for the tops n sides will that be to thin to insert 6mm channels

Is that 6mm deep channels for drawer slides? Definitely too thin. I wouldn't take out more than half the material thickness, myself.

The channels are for LED strips for the sides and top of the display unit shelves

I went for recessed with wings to hide my shocking bad routing
