MDF Wardrobe Help

Hello, i wonder if anyone can give me some advice.

I've just had some new wardrobes fitted, which are bare MDF. I've got the top coat colour sorted, but do I need to prepare them with an undercoat, and is there a guide on how many coats I should give it? Also, would it be best to use a specialist primer because its MDF, and they're on an external wall so do I need damp paint or anything.

Thank you

I've used zinseer BIN in the past to prime mdf radiator covers but I've found that Leyland acrylic primer does just as good a job at a fraction of the cost and it's much easier apply.

So to answer your question two coats of Leyland with a light sand between coats will do what you need. I don't see the external wall being an issue unless you have problems with damp.

As James says , dedicated mdf primer or good quality acrylic primer, possibly thinned slightly. Re undercoat, usually 2 coats prior to finish coat(s). No issue with external wall as said unless damp is present , in which case would need to be rectified rather than relying on a paint to hold back the problem
