Metro tiles without grout

I was speaking with a tiler today and he said that sometimes he puts up mini metro wall tiles using no grout. That is, they're tight together.

I haven't heard of this being done before, so was wondering what thoughts are on this? There would be a 19mm thick Schluter Kerdi-board substrate.

Presumably it would be cheaper as there's no grout cost and no grouting labour. Afterwards you don't have to keep any grout clean.

So what are the drawbacks? Thanks.

    Naff!

Drawbacks, ingress of water between tiles, crud working into the joints, hard to clean, etc.

What would be the smallest T-shaped spacer which could be used for the 7.5 x 15 cm mini metros? There would be a Schluter Kerdi-board substrate.

Would it be okay to use the 1 mm thickness?

I think that would look alright.

I suppose the only thing that might be of concern would be that 1mm would show up variations in tile setting relative to 2mm.

I suppose this just comes down to the skill of the individual tiler.
