Do you have to take any anti-static handling precautions when fitting a modem card in a PC?

    Thanks

With any additional card you should really take anti-static precautions. You should really wear an earthed anti-static wrist strap. However if you haven't got one of these, take care not to touch any of the components or the tracks on the back of the PCB, just handle the card by its metal bracket.

Just touch anything metal a few times while you fit it.

Switch the pc off at the wall, remove the plug.

Then plug it back in but NOT switch it on.

Satisfy yourself that the switch is off and isolating the pc.

You can earth yourself on the chassis any time you want as the Earth pin in the plug is connected.

I thought I would need to discharge myself before fitting the card, but I have also taken the extra precaution of borrowing a zap strap.

    Thanks for the advice.
