You would think a simple enough task to fit a light in a room that I just decorated, sadly not.

Ceiling light works with (old school wiring) both lives into COM both neutrals into L1 and both earthed. When I switch the light off it trips the circuit.

    Any ideas?

If you think that is correct in any way, you need an electrician.

Can you provide a picture of your *****-up.

I assume the light has one cable?
One pair is a feed one pair is a switch wire.
As it is you have both lerm and swith together giving light.
You switch on the cause a dead short

Light is 3 wires, feed is three wires. How do I correct this?

So, which blak has a sleeve on it? If any?

    How was it wired before?

I would think the neutrals should be together in a block connector. One live into COM and one into L1 on the switch.

You really don't have a clue!

Get a pro and stop messing with what you don't understand.
