Hi guys, im after some advice, we have a grassed ares of about 40msq that we want to cover in block paving, this will be foot traffic only, inpossalbe to get car to that part of garden,  now the grass is really patch due to my dog constantly doing laps of it, im looknig to put down 50mm hard core,as the base and pave on top of that, this is where im after some advice, i dont want to dig down, we have no problems with the hight incresing, my plan is to kill all the grass with weedkiller, hard core on top of whats left and pave.

do you see any issues with this, a friend has sugested that i must dig down otherwise the top soil is to soft, its a solid garden and the ground is very compacted.

i just dont see the need to bring it down as we have no need for it.

    thanks in advince
