    Hi

I've got fuses in the garage as per the attached picture. I'd like to add 1 x 1-gang and 1 x 2-gang socket in the garage, one for an automatic garage door and one for a tumble drier. From the fuseboard, there are currently 2 x individually switched lights and 1 x 1-gang socket. The garage is fed from the RCD in the house.

What do I need to buy to replace this old fuse board thing?

    Thanks

    Cammy

your garage will need to be completely rewired by a quilifed electrician you have a very old out dated system with rubber cables can you post a picture of the house consumer unit to start with.

the good old MK electric which was made when i worked there 30 years ago you would need a new consumer unit in the garage all new cables and have all the circuits tested by a electrician which is ment to be notified to the local council
and i would have your house checked over for soundness of cable condition and earthing is working.

yes that would be fine but all your cables in the garage need replacing at the same time as they are rubber and will have rotted away plus you will need the incomer checked for condition and earthing.

I think this is poorly phrased, it gives the impression that two rcds in series is ok.

I've never had any problems with one rcd consumer unit supplying another even an electrician that I've worked with used to install one supplying another without any problems and he owns his own company.

It's beyond pointless and shonky practice.

Do not do do this and don't recommend to the OP he do it.

    It is incorrect advice.

it doesn't look like a very nice unit it does look like its made of plastic with a metal clip that could snap hanging down.

BG consumer units are cheap tat and like already said 2 RCDs on the same circuit completely pointless

two RCDS on the same circuit are pointless so why did the electrician that installed a new consumer unit in my dads bungalow also have the garage rcd one run off it and it was approved by the council.
