    Hi All,

First post on here so looking for some advise.

I am looking to put up an new fence in my garden, however, it will run over a section of a waste water drain.

The drain is about 6 feet below ground.

Would I still be okay to bury the post without causing damage to the drain below?

The fence will not run over any manholes so access to the drain will always be available.

Any advise that can be given would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Darren

Is a post directly over the drain? Even if it is it shouldn't be a problem as you are only digging down 2'.

sorry to high-jack thread (again), but on a 100 x 100 fence post, 2.6m high (600 in the ground), what would an acceptable span be?
    thanks

ah right. its just i have noticed a lot of the neighbours have had them made as one long run (and not the ready-made panels you can buy) comprising of the posts, 3 x 2 top and bottom inbetween them and what looks like 6 x 1 kicker board that the featheredge sits on.

It's more usual to use arris rail but I wouldn't want to go to more than 8'.

Having fence done here, gone for concrete posts, as they will never rot, & if a panel gets damaged you just drop in another panel.

Thanks Chippie, yeah a post would be directly above the drain below the ground.

I thought it wouldn't be an issue but thought it best to get some advice.

Just to point out, the standard arris rail is 3 Metres (10 foot).

Well there you go, just don't go to Wickes or B&Q as they only go up to 8'.

I wouldn't go to either of those to buy fencing, I would expect it to last longer then it took to erect. :p:p:p

The last time I bought arris rail it was so dancers could use it to run up a wall.
