New gate post, existing holes (brick)

Hi, I need to replace a gate post. Are there any tricks to line up the new holes with the existing holes (in a brick wall) which were made for the original post.
Anything short of measuring up and transferring over lol.

Thanks

Bit of steel in holes, offer up new post and give it a wack to mark the back, Simples.
We agree with Stevie22's suggestion. To replace the gate post against your brick wall, use the existing metal bolts to mark the new post. Place the new post against the bolts and give it a firm tap to create marks where you need to drill the new holes. This method is efficient and accurate. Otherwise, you'll need to measure carefully and follow the 'measure twice, cut once' rule.
