Probably been done to death but .. here goes again.
Swapped out an old rad in my toilet for a new towel rail. new valves also.
Original supply to rad was microbore 8mm.
Purchased 2 converters to give me 15mm. cut and compression fit connected up and then bled the radiator.. resealed the valves, they were leaking .. . all solid
But, no heat. the pressure on the combi was put up to 1 bar.
The radiator does fill up completely and the 1 valve opened, the other being merely capped and always open.
The time to fill the rad was relatively quick (couple of mins) so there appears to be no blockages.
every radiator, in my 9 set Central Heating system, only has one TRV and the other side, they are all open valves, NOT adjustable lock shields.
    any ideas gentlemen?
    thanking you all in advance

  2. "the other being merely capped and always open"
Are you sure? It might be capped but you might find beneath the cap a hex bolt to open/close the valve to balance it.

Oh My Goodness, I seriously have no idea.
I will drain down the system again and check tomorrow afternoon.
I will report back my findings.
if this is indeed the case, I will gladly wear that clown's outfit.
    Thanks NoO.
unbelievable .. and I can't remove this stupid grin off my face.
    fingers crossed,

Before draining down ,post pics of the valve that is " capped and always open".
    Probably it's closed !!

  5. Further to Terence above, you don't need to drain down to open the valve. Take the shiny cap off and have a look if there;s a hex head in there.

apologies but not fully understanding what you mean.
both the pipes on my rad are cold.
is the valve shut or is it not a true valve and only a connection allowing free flowing water?
    thanks,

It's a valve. Use a hex key to open it.
What type is the valve on other end of rad ?

That is the best news I have heard this year. :)
I will source the correct allen key and get that valve opened tomorrow.
I really do appreciate your very knowledgeable help, thank you.
I will report back tomorrow with the outcome.
    have a great evening gents.
PS. plastic pipe is only for pressure testing, pre the new wall being put in. I am using copper with chrome covering for the finish.

Thanks ,that valve must be open as the rads filled with water ( only just realised after reading again your earlier post) !!!
By the way ,did you add inhibitor after draining and refilling ?

no, not yet because I will be removing the radiator again. I have a wall of tile backers boards and shower panels to put up.
so is it not the valve then? I did open the bleed valve to allow the air out.
if only one valve was open, I assume you are saying it would NOT fill the radiator up?
    thanks for the update.

Sorry ,wasn't clear. I was referring to the pic of the " other" valve being open. Your valve with hex nut is the one that's closed.
A radiator will fill with water if only one valve is open. And will not heat up if one valve is closed.

apologies for the delayed response, grandparent duties.. lockdown opening up a little, getting hugs and kisses from the wee one.. magical.
as was the advice from you special guys.
I opened the valve with an allen key... wallah. heating on, about 7 or 8 mins until it was too hot to hold, all over the radiator.
I seriously cannot thank you guys enough.
the small leak has ceased also ... must have given a nut a little tighten.
i am happy as Larry. I will now ensure the pipes are fixed to the wall, take the radiator off, replace the plastic end pieces with the chrome copper ends and cap them off.
    have a great weekend gentlemen,
    thank you,
    Brian
