The book I mentioned deals with liberal freedoms, immigration, self interest vs national interest. It was related to some of the ideas that DA bought up in his “what will we lose” post.

I don’t understand why books are more high brow than other media. I read a lot of pulp fiction. Trash. Pot boilers. Surely it’s the content that determines whether something is valuable - not whether it’s distributed on dead trees or celluloid (although they’re all 1s and 0s now anyway).

I’m not sure what the wordsmith bit is about. A smith is surely a craftsman, an artisan. I don’t think we have wordsmiths here on the SF forums.

How to describe my mangled abuse of the language? Not wordsmith. Wordbodger? Wordtatter? Wordcowboys?

That’s a lot of book for the price.
If you don’t like it then it’s not that expensive as kindling.

    You’re just getting that now?

I’m like the safety guard on a table saw - never get to the point. (I’m sure there’s a better simile that I can’t see).

DISCLAIMER! It’s Bank holiday weekend and I have had a couple of sherbets and cannot be held responsible for my utterings hereafter for the rest of the evening.

Whowa Whowa, Library! Natter! are you suggesting B2 that we have threads that only like minded peeps should engage in ? If so this type of totalitarian thread where other views are not tolerated is in my humble opinion pie in the sky.

Now we know that Chippie came up with this idea because there was trouble a’th mill, as an aside I now doubt his intentions here, as soon as the remainers waded in with a particularly nasty night of the long knives (beware the Ides of March) when poor JJ was shredded, he reverted to type and all bets were off, he was obviously not the right man to oversee such an important debate and crumbled as a snowflake does

So we need open debate and no one excluded (even DA) even though Remainers have a personality disorder which is evident by the fact it’s only they that gets banned

I am not unsympathetic to the Remoaners they are going through a terrible time and if they didn’t have this cyber outlet god knows what they would get up to as their world crumbles around them.

I would offer them some solice in that nothing lasts forever and this present world order will one day also crumble and the Remoaners great great great great grandchildren will witness another new dawn, and I hope their forebears utterances on this site and others may be preserved if only to give them a giggle :p

No. I’m not. I’m suggesting the opposite. I suggested we needed a thread for normal free conversation, natter, “full contact discussion” ie what normally happens. Chippie’s thread was the wrong place for that.

I agree about the debate. But debates have rules. Nobody seems keen on following rules though, do they? Not that I care. Chippie had a bold and noble experiment - he tried to bring freedom to speak without catflaps. Speech which stayed on topic, with coherent points. The world was not ready for such innovation. (Insert catflap meme here or random photo of Tony Blair).

And remainers get banned because some brexit-tears are precious little snowflakes who like using the report button. Which is fine. That’s why these forums have the snitch switch, to protect delicate sensibilities.

You guys should embrace the snowflakiness. Snowflakes are pretty. Y’all report away. We won’t hold it against you.

It won’t take that many generations. Maybe two before they go back to the EU and ask if they can undo crazy great- grampa fac’s mistake.

Only a couple of sherbets Facs? I doubt that.
I have only beer in the house. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up - you’ve too much of a head start on me.

I'm here and watching, I presumed the u/s would wait till they had all ganged up before attacking.
You all showed your true colours on the brexit threads I posted so I have nothing further to prove.

I’m trying! Lager is hard work.

In a rusty nail - is the drambuie the rust or the nail? I’d like to pretend I’m sophisticated and tell the missus I’m drinking either a rusty iron oxide or a clean nail - basically whichever one means I don’t have to add the drambuie.

I think if you check it up it’s a specific Whiskey (two thirds) and a third Drambuie, but I just use a cheap Whiskey, it seems to do the trick, I’m not a fan of beer in the house I do have the odd one though like if I’m having a ruby like tonight:) not sure which is the rust or the nail,

Why don't we just settle the whole debate with a game of conkers, normal playground rules apply, no baking them in the oven or soaking them in vinegar.

    There's two.

  19. So is it Irish that you mix and not Scotch with the Drambuie? for a rusty nail.

Genius. We should have done that with the whole Brexit decision.

    Advantages
    • Fewer lies
    • Less Boris, Farage and Blair
    • Probably less acrimony over the result
    • It’s uniquely British
    • Nobody would have to call immigrants nasty names to make political points
    • Nobody would have to denigrate the intelligence of British people when they disagree with them
    • The look on European faces when we explain how real Brits make decisions
    Disadvantages
    • It’s a bit daft

I think the advantages have it.
