Been on my last long day (12.5 hrs) this week. Absolutely knacked, but don’t have to get up early in the morning. ;);)

Yeah bin there done it mate, glad those days are over for me, just having a look at some Alan Partridge YouTube Vids, a lot of what he says reminds me of DA, strange though Alans a rabid Brexiteer

Ah well think I’ll throw a bag on it now just dozing off

Google tells me it's John Harrison's birthday today.

Just how exciting can a book about navigating your way on the high seas be? The answer - Longitude - is very.

Have you seen Harrison's clock? I'd love to have one in my sitting room.

And his device worked better than other methods, like bringing up a bunch of sibling kittens together, placing one on a sailing ship and then - at an indicative hour such as 'noon' - beating the one still on shore to death to make it's shipborne bro' waul.

The latter method was based not on science but on 'faith'. Ie, it had no rational or evidential justification whatsoever. A bit like youknowwhat, then.

actually, a lot like it.

The clock looks beautiful, should imagine originals cost a fortune.

My first car was a Morris Minor split windscreen, this was in the 60s and it was a fair few years old then, I had to weld a new floor in as the original was rotten. Always remember when you looked under the bonnet there was this little metal thing in the middle (engine) with loads of room & open space around it, unbelievable when you look under the bonnet of our modern cars, I learnt in that car.

My second car around 1968 was a ford Corsair, my dad who was a motor mechanic all his life advised me against it as it had no starting handle :D:oops: howtimes change

Why did I start going on about cars? I dunno must have been thinking of summat else:rolleyes:

Yes, that huge bulbous bonnet, with now't but air underneath :)

Fab cars. One of the first with rack & pinion steering? :) Torsion bar suspension. :)

King pins... :(

Want a chuckle-to-yourself bit of non-fict? Thoroughly recommend Bryson's 'At Home'.
Thanks for that recommendation. It was a nice change of pace from space opera and dystopia.

It was interesting to read about people's attitudes to the poor and free trade in C18th-19th.
Look far how we've progres... oh...

Next up "Dogs of War" (Adrian Tchaikovsky). From the blurb it appears I'm in for some robotic/genetically-engineered canine mayhem!
Yup, I've never understood why reading is considered highbrow. I hope DoW is as trashy and fun as a Hollywood blockbuster - heavy on special effects, light on pathos.
hoo-sa-good-killing-machine? FETCH!
