    Hi,
just moved into a house and am doing it up, its old 17th century, and im bringing it back to how it was, (some idiot brought some of the rooms 'up to date') so i have exposed beams ect, but one item that i think would go well would be a large oak box which was left to me and has been in my garage for 5 years or so, its dented and the original varnish? has worn off in places and the wood has gone greyish, i realy want to bring this back and make it look good, im reluctant to use varnish because i dont want it to look to shiny, can anyone please tell me the best way to acheve this?
    thanks

My father used to make blanket boxes. and he always spent longer finishing them than it took to make them. Linenfold paneling. That was his hobby though he was a cabinet maker.
