I am about to install oil CH and want to know the best stuff to seal the fittings on the oil supply pipes to the boiler.
I have been told PTFE will "do" and have had conflicting advice on the pipe sealant (part number12693) sold by S/F.
The manufacturers said, halfheartedly, "yeah should be OK" and S/F said "not suitable".
Where do I go from here please?

Have you considered "Boss white" and hemp? The Boss white is smeared onto the pipe threads and then the hemp (which is like horse hair), is wrapped around in much the same way as PTFE, but copes with the course thread of the pipes.

I know I can get Boss White at my local Jewson, I will ask if they have hemp as well.

    thanks

    Hi Malcolm
Bosswhite is not suitable for oil...use hermatite/hylomar or any propriety joint sealer approved for oil
