It is certainly true that Sfx Pete is a clear-thinking, rational fellow.
How amusing that Ry has come out as the theist's champion! (But perhaps not too surprising as the cove will believe chust about any weirdo thing...)
No, Ry, whilst many Caths and 'Slams are perfectly decent folk on the surface, you only have to analyse their lives to see how this silly belief in a divine being dominates their lives. And the lives of their families - because religious people chust don't let it be. They instil, instil, instil.
And you just try and throwing that indoctrination away become a rational, critical-thinking individual as a member of one of these families. Very few would accept an atheist in their midst without a serious issue.
Surely an educated person like yourself knows what the penalty for leaving the Islamic faith is, for instance? You've heard of apostasy?
As you say, chust fine and dandy and dead.
Tee hee -
Er, I mean
I must admit, the notion of some omnipotent space lord of creation has always baffled me.
Superstition to control (and dip the pockets of) the masses if you ask me.
Divide and conquer!
That is certainly what it became.
But it very likely just started through fear of natural forces and an inability to work out how else we came to be here - "what's life all about, eh?"
The irony of the human mind - it evolved far enough to make us sentient beings, but without the common sense to work things out rationally. An unfortunate combination.
Mind you, even at the time of Christ - when such prophets were ten-a-penny and almost everybody naturally believed in numerous gawds -there were still some incredibly rational individuals who had an astonishing amount sussed out; that we are made from particles ('atoms'), that these particles are shared with everything else in the universe, that we are nothing special in the scheme of things - the world was not created for us, that we will ultimately die and that's the end of it, that life is all about the pursuit of pleasure and happiness and the avoidance of pain.
And many many died tried to vocalise these thoughts over the centuries.
I have no respect for religious belief. None.
People are, of course, entitled to believe what they want - provided they (a) keep it to themselves and don't try and impose it on others, and (b) don't expect others to respect them for their beliefs.
So strange that most just cannot manage these two simple tasks.
I couldn't agree more.
I don't mean to offend the believers, but his just about sums up religion for me.
That's a bit rich coming from you, DA.
After all, (forget religion for a moment) you come on here sharing your belief of a matter, and diss(actually downright repudiate) anyone that doesn't respect your view.
I'd say that is exactly the opposite of what you expect in the quoted paragraph.
Mr. HandyAndy - Really
If that is your honest understanding of the situation on here, you are more stupid than I thought.
My point exactly.
The word "Sentient" is a technical term within Buddhism. Strange that you would use a word from such a great institution.
"it principally refers to beings in contrast with buddahood. That is, sentient beings are characteristically not enlightened"
So very true.
"I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know his thoughts. The rest are details."
advocate your brain has evolved with little more capability of understanding the universe and how it came into being than a donkey has off any chance of playing a game of chess.
If you can manage to push it any further up your rear you chust might start to see light.
The same light that the great Einstein could see.
Ry, you have repeatedly, using your own words and without anybody trying to trap you, proved that you are a complete fool with a despicable belief system. Do not try to lecture anybody.
You don't even know my belief system fool.
My guess is I've hit a raw nerve with you because your just another heretic so have decided to stick your oar in.
Hmmm given that no one exactly knows how the universe came into being, your post is pointless and irrelevant. (unless you'd like to enlighten scientists as to just exactly how the universe came into being) (and please, don't tell me it was created by some mythical, all seeing, benevolent, omnipotent character called God)
Many scientists believe in God so I'd have little enlightning to do.
I think that AH and Ry drink in th same pub !
Typical "cop out" right there. Keep it up Ry,, just keep on digging that hole.
Scientists who shoe horn themselves into a corner with a physics book and limit their dimensions with what physics alone teaches them will always be one step behind the likes of Einstein.
I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest of atheists on here but sadly that's the way it has went.
Ry, you've not yet worked out that religion is a man made concept? Simply designed to control the masses. Nothing more, nothing less. (prove me wrong)
