I have a bedroom horizontally clad with T&G boards and varnished. I want to paint it Barley White; what preparation do I need to do and is it better to use emulsion or satinwood?

Just as well you didn't ask this in the chippies forum or you would have been advised to oil the wood so it looks like wood ought to.

you need to give the surface a good sanding to key the paint.. use an orbital sander. Then a coat of quick drying primer /undercoat then finish with a coat of undercoat then a coat of topcoat. I find that eggshell looks great on t&g

    As are the new members.

Anyhoo, I fear I must go and see some cosmic ordering on TV. I have managed to resist that prog until now (very easily as it happens) but I do like to observe the odd lune.

    And none come more odder.
